Google has launched an M124 version of ChromeOS on the Stable channel, which brings five new features to the Chromebooks. These features are the following Faster Split Screen Setup, Wi-Fi Quality of Service, increased maximum size of the mouse pointer, Fast Pair feature enabled to connect mice, and a new settings menu. Let’s discuss the top features of ChromeOS M124.
Top Features of ChromeOS M124
Faster Split Screen Setup
The Faster Split Screen Setup feature means that the user becomes able to run two applications simultaneously, snapping them to one half of the screen. When the window is snapped on half of the display, the ChromeOS will show an overview of all open apps on another side, allowing the user to choose. Alternatively, applications from the shelf can be chosen for use on the other half of the display. It is one of the top features of ChromeOS M124.
Support for Wi-Fi QoS
ChromeOS M124 introduces a feature called Wi-Fi Quality of Service that prioritizes traffic for video conferencing and gaming applications on congested Wi-Fi networks. Thus, video playback is much smoother, as the buffering is significantly reduced. However, initially, there will be no access for managed users.
Increased Maximum Size of Mouse Pointer
The maximum size of the Mouse pointer has also been increased because this latest version of ChromeOS offers even larger mouse pointers, as people suggested CR one to those with poor vision, and people need it for presentations or video calls. It is among the top features of ChromeOS M124.
Fast Pair Support for Mice
Although ChromeOS already has Fast Pair for Bluetooth devices, it was not available for mice. In M124, ChromeOS fast Pair for mice allows fast, easy, and smooth connection and pairing when a compatible Bluetooth mouse is near a Chromebook.
Redesigned Settings Menu
In M124, the settings menu has been redesigned with a Material You theme and a split-screen view. The setting menu for ChromeOS M124 looks like the Android setting on a Tablet, which aims to improve the user experience, making it one of the top features of ChromeOS M124.
Google notes that the update and associated features will be progressively rolled out over the coming days, with not all devices immediately eligible. Users can manually check for the ChromeOS M124 update by navigating to Time » Settings » About ChromeOS » Check for updates.
