Despicable Me Cast
A-list celebrities play the adorable animated characters in Despicable Me. The protagonist of the film is a supervillain by the name of Gru, who adopts three girls in an attempt to steal the Moon but ultimately finds that parenting fulfills him more than evildoing. Enough people liked Despicable Me to warrant a blockbuster franchise.
Gru developed into a lovable figure that audiences would follow in several follow-ups, while the Minions—who made their debut in the first Despicable Me film—have become pop culture icons, starring in their own spinoff films. A wonderful group of voice performers brought those now-iconic figures to life.
The animation firm Illumination Entertainment, which later launched the Sing and Secret Life of Pets franchises, made its debut feature-length film, Despicable Me. Critics and fans embraced it right once, placing Illumination on the same pedestal as DreamWorks Animation and Pixar. Despicable Me Cast
Steve Carell provides the voice of Gru, the supervillain from Despicable Me who wants to take the Moon. The 40-Year-Old Virgin, which starred the actor most remembered for playing the quotable Michael Scott on The Office, gave him his big screen debut. In the Anchorman films, he also portrayed Brick Tamland. He also portrayed the lead in Evan Almighty and Get Smart.
Carell received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of killer John Eleuthère du Pont in Foxcatcher. He also gave dramatic performances in Little Miss Sunshine, The Big Short, and Beautiful Boy. He went back to television, starring in The Morning Show as disgraced anchor Mitch Kessler.
 Miranda Cosgrove as Margo
Margo is the eldest and most responsible of Gru’s adoptive daughters, and Miranda Cosgrove provides her voice to the Despicable Me cast. In School of Rock, Cosgrove makes her acting debut opposite Jack Black as Summer Hathaway, a class factotum and band manager.
Her Nickelodeon performances as Carly Shay in iCarly and Megan Parker in Drake & Josh helped her become a well-known celebrity worldwide. Cosgrove made her debut in music with the iCarly soundtrack and the albums Sparks Fly and High Maintenance, all of which she released as a singer and songwriter.
Jason Segel  as Vector
Jason Segel portrays Vector, Gru’s longtime adversary who was successful in stealing the Great Pyramid of Giza. The actor gained notoriety for his roles as Nick Andopolis in Freaks and Geeks and Marshall Eriksen in How I Met Your Mother. In addition to starring in the critically acclaimed romantic comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, he also wrote and directed I Love You, Man, and Bad Teacher.
Segel wrote several screenplays for himself to star in, including The Muppets and The Five-Year Engagement. His portrayal of novelist David Foster Wallace in The End of the Tour won him critical acclaim and an Independent Spirit Award nomination.
 Nefario as Russell Brand
The voice of Russell Brand can be heard in the Despicable Me ensemble as Dr. Nefario, Gru’s elderly assistant. In the Aldous-focused spinoff of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, Brand portrayed rock singer Aldous Snow.
In addition, he portrayed the lead role in the 2011 Arthur remake, Linus Windlesham in Death on the Nile, and Lonny Barnett in Rock of Ages. He performed as the voice of the Easter Bunny’s kid in Hop, who aspires to be a drummer. As a stand-up comedian, Brand has won three British Comedy Awards and gained popularity with his Messiah Complex special from 2013.
Wiig, Kristen: Miss Hattie
Kristen Wiig provides the voice of Miss Hattie, the proprietor of the orphanage where Gru adopts the girls. In the Despicable Me sequels, the actress played Agent Lucy Wilde, Gru’s love interest. From 2005 to 2012, Wiig was a cast member of Saturday Night Live and became well-known.
Her role in Bridesmaids, in which she co-wrote the original screenplay with Annie Mumolo, earned her an Oscar nomination, helped make her a household figure. Since then, Wiig has portrayed the evil Barbara Ann Minerva in the superhero follow-up Wonder Woman 1984 and Dr. Erin Gilbert in the 2016 Ghostbusters revival. She is also recognized from the How to Train Your Dragon franchise as Ruffnut Thorston.
Arnett Will As Mr. Perkins
As Mr. Perkins, the head of the Bank of Evil, where villains obtain loans to finance their evil plans, Will Arnett provides a voice for the despicable me character. Arnett’s unique voice is well-known from his roles as Batman in the Lego Movie franchise and as the titular horse comedian in BoJack Horseman.
Arnett is well-known from his roles in live-action television series as competitive ice skater Stranz van Waldenberg in Blades of Glory, aspiring magician Gob Bluth in Arrested Development, and Devon Banks, Jack Donaghy’s business competitor in 30 Rock. In addition, he hosts Lego Masters, a competitive show.
Is Julie Andrews Gru’s mother?
Julie Andrews, one of the brightest stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age, plays the role of Gru’s mother. In addition to receiving the AFI Life Achievement Award and the Kennedy Center Honors, Andrews was named a dame by Queen Elizabeth II. She was nominated for Best Actress three times and took home the Oscar for her portrayal of Mary Poppins’ lead role.
In addition, Andrews portrayed Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music and co-starred as Sarah Sherman in the Alfred Hitchcock film Torn Curtain with Paul Newman as Professor Michael Armstrong. After starring as Clarisse Renaldi in the Princess Diaries series, she experienced a career comeback.
One of Gru’s adopted daughters, Edith, is voiced by Dana Gaier in the film Despicable Me. In the psychological suspense thriller The Ice Cream Truck, Gaier also portrayed Brie. Elsie Fisher plays Agnes, Gru’s other adopted daughter. Elsie Fisher provides Agnes’ voice.
The actress, who also portrayed Katie in season three of Barry and Lila in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre revival, was nominated for a Golden Globe for her major role as Kayla in Bo Burnham’s breakthrough feature film, Eighth Grade.
She did not return to voice Agnes in Despicable Me 3, despite playing the same character in Despicable Me 2. Pierre Coffin as the Minions: Pierre Coffin, the co-director of Despicable Me, provides the voice of Gru’s infamous goons. Coffin kept portraying the Minions in follow-ups and spin-offs after they became an unanticipated global hit. The cartoon series Pat & Stan was previously produced by him.
Chris Renaud, who also serves as Despicable Me’s other director, portrays Dave, a Minion. Renaud’s Ice Age short, No Time for Nuts, starring Scrat, earned him a nomination for an Academy Award. In addition, he directed both Secret Life of Pets films and the full-length version of The Lorax.
Jemaine Clement made a cameo appearance in the Despicable Me cast as Jerry, a distinct type of Minion. The most well-known role for Clement is that of Bret McKenzie’s partner in the musical comedy Flight of the Conchords.

Danny McBride as Fred McDade: Danny McBride voices Gru’s neighbor across the street in the Despicable Me ensemble. The HBO series Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals, and The Righteous Gemstones were all developed and starred by McBride.
In addition, he provided the voice of Rick Mitchell in The Mitchells vs. the Machines and portrayed Rico Brown in Hot Rod, Cody Underwood in Tropic Thunder, an inflated version of himself in This is the End, and more.
Jack McBrayer plays a tourist dad and a carnival barker in Despicable Me. He has two small roles in the film. McBrayer is well recognized for his roles as Fix-It Felix in Disney’s cartoon Wreck-It Ralph trilogy and Kenneth Parcell from 30 Rock.
Mindy Kaling, who gained notoriety as a writer and cast member on The Office in the role of Kelly Kapoor, plays the tourist mother opposite McBrayer’s tourist dad. In addition, she was the creator of The Mindy Project and played Dr. Mindy Lahiri on the program. The voice of Kaling is recognized as the protagonist of Velma and Disgust from Pixar’s Inside Out.
Talk show host Ken Jeong: In the film Despicable Me, Ken Jeong makes a brief appearance as a talk show host. Leslie Chow from the Hangover trilogy, Ben Chang from Community, and Ken Park from the show Dr. Ken—which he also created—are Jeong’s most well-known roles. In 2019, Jeong’s debut comedy special, You Complete Me, Ho, was published on Netflix. He frequently participates in panels on The Masked Singer.
Being a news anchor, Rob Huebel: Rob Huebel plays a news anchor who makes a fleeting appearance in Despicable Me. The actor is most recognized for his roles as Tevin Downey in I Love You, Man, Len Novak on Transparent, Russell on The League, and Holly’s boyfriend A.J. on The Office.
