After weeks of maintaining that he would be leaving Barcelona at the end of the season, Xavi Hernandez has decided to go back on his words and stay at the club for the coming season. The manager was reportedly convinced in a meeting with president Joan Laporta, vice president Rafa Yuste and sporting director Deco.
The team is set to endure a trophyless season after being knocked out in the Champions League and Copa del Rey, and now 11 points behind Real Madrid in the LaLiga title race. But, considering the circumstances, the club has decided to continue with Xavi.
Xavi Hernandez to remain Barcelona coach for another season
🔵🔴 Laporta: "Xavi has expressed his joy to stay at Barça, continue this project and improve together. We are excited. It's an excellent news for Barça".

"Stability is key for successful projects, Xavi is a true Barcelonista. We share this feeling: Barça on top of his mind". pic.twitter.com/aQ42PB347E
“I changed my mind because I really felt total confidence from the president, from the board and the players too. This project isn’t finished yet”, Xavi Hernandez said after the official confirmation of his stay.
“Me, my staff, all together feel that we have strength to make important things together and continue this project”.
Xavi’s contract with Barcelona runs out in 2025, with the option for another year. An extension has not been mentioned as part of his decision to stay, meaning he could be on his way out next summer unless the management decides to activate the automatic extension.
The former midfielder re-joined Barcelona as the manager in 2021, and led them to the LaLiga title last year. After battling injuries and a limited budget to improve the squad, he has had a challenging season this time around. But, there is optimism that things could change next year if things go according to plan.
