Mohun Bagan SG have won their first ever ISL league title, overcoming the odds to beat Mumbai City FC 2-1 in front of a sold out home crowd at the Salt Lake Stadium. The Mariners went ahead with a stunning goal from Liston Colaco in the first half, helping them earn a massive advantage.
And although clearly offside, Jason Cummings scored in the second half and doubled their lead to score the match winner. LZ Chhangte was able to score a consolation goal late in the game to up the stakes for a tense finish. But, it wasn’t enough for the Sky Blues to retain their title.

Just like their meeting earlier this season in Mumbai, tensions ran high towards the end of the game. This time, though, Brendan Hamill was the only player who was shown a red card, but too late in the game to make a difference.
The home team was clearly the better side in the game, with City unable to keep up with the atmosphere and shut out in terms of chances created.

The Mariners now head into the tournament with the added momentum of being the league winners, while Mumbai City FC will have everything to play for in the knockout stages. It was a remarkable finish to a thrilling ISL league season, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. But after impressing from the get-go, Mohun Bagan SG have rightfully taken their place at the top of the table for good.
