DigiTimes (via Apple Insider) reports that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is getting ready to release a new chip for the iPhone 17 Pro models, which are anticipated to go on sale in the second half of 2024. The claim cites supply chain sources.
Although a release date for these CPUs is not stated in the study, Apple is anticipated to release Mac models using 2nm chips in the future.
iPhone 17 Pro tipped to launch with 2nm chipset in 2025 built by TSMC details
According to reports, TSMC made plans to begin producing 2nm chips in large quantities by 2025. It was speculated that the next iPhone 17 Pro would be among the first gadgets to use these new chips after this revelation.
The report states that although the Taiwanese chip company plans to begin producing 2nm chip designs next year, it is also developing a more sophisticated “N2” process technology to produce even better 2nm devices by the end of 2026. Based on this, it is possible that the iPhone 19 series, which might launch in 2027, will be the first iPhone models to use chips made using the “N2P” process technology.
The chipmaker is apparently moving closer to producing 1.4nm CPUs in the interim. It’s possible that Apple is internally referring to this forthcoming processor as the “A14,” which is not to be confused with the A14 chip found in the 2020 iPhone 12 series.
