Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Christopher Nkunku is unlikely to play a game for Chelsea again this season. The striker recently suffered another injury setback, and will not feature for the Blues as they aim to secure a European spot to save their season.

The former RB Leipzig striker was signed to great fan reactions, and many believed he would prosper in England. But, an injury sustained in preseason ruled him out for a significant portion of the season. Even though he scored a couple of goals after coming off the bench in the Premier League, his contribution has been hindered significantly.

Christopher Nkunku’s season likely over

After the knee injury in preseason and the hip injury in January, a new problem found after the EFL Cup final loss to Liverpool has kept the striker out. He was expected to be back by now, but his recovery is taking much longer than expected.

That has been the story for Chelsea this season – with so many injuries hampering their squad development over the year. Christopher Nkunku in particular has been a massive loss for the side considering how good he is.

Next season, perhaps, the Blues will be able to manage the injuries better. But right now, taking chances and rushing the €60 million signing back might only lead to new injuries.
