Chelsea have officially confirmed the extension of Alfie Gilchrist’s contract. The Cobham academy graduate has renewed his contract until 2026, keeping him at the club for the foreseeable future.
The youngster has been introduced to the first team by Mauricio Pochettino in light of the injury crisis the club has faced recently. He has now extended his stay, confirming the team’s plans to keep him for the coming seasons.
Alfie Gilchrist renews contract with Chelsea until 2026
With Thiago Silva leaving at the end of his contract this June and Trevoh Chalobah likely to be sold, Gilchrist has a good opportunity to step up to the first team. The 20-year-old has shown his potential in the cameos he has had so far, being brought on near the end of games for defensive reinforcement.
And with Chelsea’s youth-first policy, he could become the latest to step up to the first team after Levi Colwill’s rise in central defense. Gilchrist has made 12 appearances for the senior team across all competitions, but his game time has been limited.
Nevertheless, he has a long way to go and could be a valuable member of the squad in the coming years, as the team matures.
