This month Apple is gearing up to revamp the design of the iPad Pro bringing in a bunch of changes, to its tablet. While the devices were originally set for a release by the end of this month they have encountered some delays lately which might push back the launch beyond what was anticipated. However there haven’t been any details revealed about these delays so far. One significant change that Apple is looking to make is shifting the Face ID sensors and front camera on the iPad Pro and iPad Air models from portrait to landscape orientation.

Apple Planning to Introduce Landscape Camera Orientation

Samsung’s recent Galaxy S9 Ultra tablet already has a facing camera in landscape mode indicating that tablets are mostly used in landscape orientation as it offers a view of the screen. Apple is likely to follow suit with this approach for the OLED iPad Pro models and leaks hint that this landscape orientation for Face ID and camera will also apply to the iPad Air models.

Both the 11-inch and 13-inch versions of the iPad Pro are in line for upgrades with Apple gearing up for enhancements, in its iPad Air lineup alongside the Pro models. As per details shared by a source on Weibo, it seems that the iPad Air series will also adopt the landscape orientation setup for Face ID and the camera following in the footsteps of the iPad Pro.

Apple had previously rolled out landscape mode for the camera on the iPad 10 due to its popularity with users. Given this trend, it’s likely that Apple will extend design choices to iPad models possibly including the upcoming iPad mini 7 slated for release later this year.

Internal adjustments will be necessary to accommodate the relocation of Face ID sensors and cameras. It’s possible that most of the components, in both the iPad Pro and iPad Air models could remain unchanged. While Apple plans to radically redesign the iPad Pro lineup, the specific changes intended for the iPad Air remain undisclosed.

This year, the iPad Air will be available in two display sizes—10.9 inches and 12.9 inches. Additionally, the OLED iPad Pro models are set to receive a screen size upgrade, offering slightly larger panels than the current models. Speculation suggests that the new design may feature slimmer bezels compared to the current tablet variants, but these details remain unconfirmed pending an official announcement from Apple.
