Rasmus Hojlund wins historic Premier League POTM award in Feb 2024

Manchester United’s forward Rasmus Hojlund has been crowned the Premier League Player of the Month for February 2024, marking the first time a Danish player has received the accolade in the history of the Premier League. He managed to surpass fellow nominees Joao Gomes (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Pascal Groß (Brighton & Hove Albion), Rodrigo Muniz (Fulham), and Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) for this honor.

The ex-Atalanta forward showcased exceptional form, securing the second goal in United’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 1, and opening the scoring in the 3-0 triumph against West Ham United shortly after. Hojlund also found the back of the net in the victory against Aston Villa at Villa Park on February 11. The 21-year-old forward’s notable performance continued with a double in United’s narrow 2-1 win over Luton Town a week later.

No other player played a part in as many goals in February as the Manchester United striker, who accumulated five goals and an assist during the month. Despite an injury interrupting his impressive run and making him sit out the highly anticipated Manchester derby, he is expected to potentially return to the field against Everton, possibly coming off the bench.

In related news, Manchester United’s young talent Kobbie Mainoo has been nominated for the goal of the month award following his remarkable goal that secured a win for the Reds against Wolves. Additionally, Erik ten Hag, the head coach, is in the running for the Manager of the Month award.

In the meantime, Manchester United is set to face Everton this weekend with the aim of reducing the gap in their quest for a top-four finish, a goal that is increasingly slipping away as United finds themselves 11 points behind fourth-placed Villa. Even securing a spot in the Europa League is proving difficult, with Tottenham Hotspur ahead by six points and one game in hand, sitting in fifth.

Hojlund will not be involved as he is still recovering from an injury and will likely return to action after the international break.

Given these challenges, United is now focusing on the FA Cup as a chance to redeem this season’s struggles. However, they are up against a formidable Liverpool team, eager for more silverware following their League Cup victory.
