Leicester’s Hamza Choudhury in talks to join Bangladesh for FIFA WC 2026 Qualifiers

Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury could play for the Bangladesh national team in the March international break if an agreement can be reached for his release. Born in Loughborough, the player has roots in Habiganj, which he used to visit as a child. His roots to Bangladesh come from his grandparents, and an effort is being made to ensure he is released for duty to play in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.

Bangladesh are set to face Palestine in the coming month, and since Choudhury hasn’t made his debut for any national team yet, he can represent the Bengal Tigers even though he has played for England at the youth level.

Here is what Amer Khan, the current Bangladesh national team manager had to say:

“We are working on the situation of Hamza and trying our best. Let’s see what happens, the attempts are ongoing. There is an 80% chance that we’ll get him as part of the squad. However, they are still continuing to play over there in the Championship and if he doesn’t get a break, then he can’t join the squad.”

Hamza Choudhury has played 53 times in the Premier League, and now features regularly in the Championship too, given the Foxes were relegated last season. He has made 30 appearances in the second tier of England this campaign, and will bring a wealth of experience with him if he indeed represents Bangladesh in March.
