WPL 2024: List of Withdrawn Players and Their Replacements in Women’s Premier League 2024

The TATA WPL 2024 is organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) featuring five teams. Mumbai Indians are the defending Champions and this year’s Finals will be held on 17 March 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is scheduled to begin at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, February 23. Here is a list of the players who have withdrawn their names from WPL Season 2 and their replacements.

List of Withdrawn Players and Their Replacements in Women’s Premier League 2024

England’s Lauren Bell from UP Warriorz was replaced by unsold prospect in the WPL 2024 Auction, Chamari Athapaththu. Lauren Bell chose to withdraw in order to play the upcoming tour of New Zealand, slated to begin on March 19.

Heather Knight from RCB will also miss the season due to the same reason and she will be replaced by South Africa’s Nadine de Klerk.

Other prominent absentees are Australian bowling-all-arounder Kim Garth and former West Indian all-arounder Deandra Dottin of Gujarat Giants who’ve also pulled out following the previous season.

Kanika Ahuja, spin-bowling all-rounder pulled out too because of an injury along with Kashvee Gautam. An uncapped all-rounder, Sayali Satghare has taken Gautam’s place. Meanwhile Ahuja was replaced by Shradda Pokharkar.

The TATA WPL consists of five teams-

2. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Captained by Indian International Smriti Mandhana
3. Gujarat Giants(GG) Captained by Australian International Beth Mooney
4. Delhi Capitals (DC) Captained by Australian International Meg Lanning
5. UP Warriorz Captained by Australian International Alyssa Healy

The TATA WPL involves all the five teams playing each other twice in a home-and-away, double round-robin format. The top three teams qualify qualify for the playoffs after the double round-robin league based on aggregate points.

For the final match, the team with the highest points will automatically qualify. In the “Eliminator”, the second and third-placed teams teams compete with each other and the winner of this match will move on to the final match.

All the matches will be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi, with the latter to host the knockout stages.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) was inaugurated in 2023 with five teams. Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals in the finals to win the first ever WPL trophy. The primary objective of WPL is to provide a platform for domestic players in which they can showcase, develop their talent and skills to achieve success.

The WPL is also an effort to make Women’s cricket more popular in India by BCCI. Free tickets to the WPL matches were given to all women to ensure their participation in the first season. The Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai were the chosen venues for the matches and had a prize money of Rs. 10 Crores.
