The world’s richest footballer is not who you might think. It’s actually Faiq Bolkiah, the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei. With a net worth of €18.698 billion, neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo comes close to the youngster when it comes to absolute monetary value.
However, Bolkiah has now suffered an injury when playing for Thai Premier League club Ratchaburi. He is hospitalised, and is in recovery for the injury. The 25-year-old picked up the injury after coming on as a substitute against Police Tero at Boonyachinda Stadium.
Faiq Bolkiah, the world’s richest footballer, now injured
Faiq Bolkiah has played at the youth level for several clubs in England, including Chelsea, Southampton and Leicester City. But, he hasn’t made a senior appearance for any of these clubs. He started playing senior football with Thai club Chonburi FC in winter 2021, and has remained in the country since.
“I know you must be in shock and in great pain right now, but know that we will be with you every step of the way until you are back in the dragon shirt and scoring goals for us again. Although you have only been with us for eight months, I am sure that everyone at the club and the fans love you. We’ll be waiting for the day when you come back stronger than ever, lad,” Ratchaburi boss Tanawat Nitikanchana said.
In 46 senior games in Thailand, he has scored and assisted four goals each. He has also represented the Brunei national team, earning six caps and scoring one goal.
