Everton are at the risk of a second points deduction for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, after initially being docked 10 points. Alongside them, Nottingham Forest have also been charged on similar grounds by the Premier League body.Â
The reason behind the charges is both clubs exceeding the £105 million loss threshold over three financial years, including 2022/23. Everton were already in difficult conditions after sanctioning a massive amount for their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. And the latest season hasn’t brought them any respite, with yet another relegation battle set to take place in spite of their good form on the pitch.
Everton and Nottingham Forest face points deduction risk over P&S Rule Breaches
Everton’s 10-point deduction from November has been appealed and will be heard independently. The statement from the Premier League revealed that the clubs themselves declared the breach, and it remains to be seen whether they will appeal yet another points deduction.Â
Both cases will be heard independently as part of a private hearing, and the result will be declared on the league’s official website. Everton’s loss period covers the financial years from 2019-2023. On the other hand, Forest’s time frame can be assumed to be the last three years from 2020 onwards.
The outcome of the hearing is pending as things stand, but in case of a points deduction, both teams could face relegation with half the season yet to play.
