2023: A Pivotal Year for Gaming and Esports in India

As we approach the end of 2023, it’s time to reflect on a truly transformative year for the gaming and esports industry in India. This year has seen an extraordinary surge in gaming and esports growth, marking a milestone in the history of the industry. The landscape has been enriched by significant tournaments, new game introductions, and considerable investments, all testament to a rapidly expanding community of gamers.

Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO, KRAFTON India: We remain committed to India and growing the gaming and Esports system holistically

A key player in this revolution is KRAFTON. Famous worldwide for its pioneering role in the gaming sector, KRAFTON has contributed significantly to the growth witnessed in India. The company made a substantial commitment in 2023, pledging an additional USD 150 million investment in Indian gaming and tech startups over the next 2-3 years.

This investment wasn’t just financial. KRAFTON also launched a unique gaming incubator programme in India, aiming to cultivate and empower local talent. The initiative is designed to discover and nurture the next generation of game developers, giving them the resources, guidance, and platforms they need to succeed.

In addition to the incubator program, KRAFTON unveiled two new game titles and hosted some of the largest eSports tournaments India has ever seen. These accomplishments underline the company’s dedication to offering both amateur and professional players platforms to grow, scale, and excel.

Looking forward to 2024, KRAFTON remains firmly committed to India and the holistic growth of the gaming and Esports ecosystem. The company is excited to continue fostering talent through its gaming incubator program and aims to publish a title developed and made by Indian talent, not only for the country but also for other global markets.

Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of KRAFTON India, shared his thoughts on the past year and the future outlook: “We believe in the power of Indian IPs and content in making a lasting global impact, and we are excited to achieve new milestones in our journey to unlock the country’s full potential as a global gaming powerhouse.”

Indeed, 2023 has been an exciting year for the esports industry in India. With companies like KRAFTON leading the charge, we look forward to an even more dynamic 2024, filled with innovation, growth, and new opportunities for Indian gamers and developers.
