This is the first-ever win for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka in an ICC World Cup match, with the Lions leading the head to head record 3-0 before the game.
The partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan proved to be the game changer for Bangladesh. Shanto narrowly missed out on his century by 10 runs, while Al Hasan was caught out for 82.
Angelo Mathews was timed out, a historic event in international cricket and went on to dismiss Shakib Al Hasan and point towards his wrist to call back to the earlier incident. Even though he requested the Bangladesh captain to withdraw his request, Al Hasan insisted that his counterpart be sent back.
