IPL has remained to be one of the richest tournaments in the world always, with huge numbers of the sponsor. This year it did take a halt because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the problem didn’t stay much longer, more than 200 brands will be riding on the brand IPL in 2020.

These brands will be advertising either as on-air advertisers with broadcaster Star India, BCCI Central Sponsorships, IPL Team Sponsorships, or as advertisers on IPL Live Streaming feed on Disney Hotstar. There are some categories.

On-Air Advertising:

According to Star Sports, more than 80 brands including Byju’s, Amazon, Dream11 are already registered. They also expect to sign 30-40 more brands before September 19th.

Team Sponsors:

Despite the Covid-19 situation every team has signed 8-10 brands as sponsor.

Live Streaming:

Disney Hotstar is official digital live streaming partner of IPL. They have already signed 12-15 brands as a sponsor.

Dream 11 has already become the title sponsor of the IPL claiming it from VIVO.

In IPL 2019 the Chinese handset maker had sponsored around 350-400 Crore and they are expecting around 300 crores this year as well. Ashish Chadha, CEO of leading Sports Marketing Company Sporty Solutionz, said “Handset category is one of the biggest advertising categories on IPL over the years. It will be tough for the broadcaster to replace them but the good part is some more categories have opened up for the like Mobile Gaming, Fantasy Sports, Edtech companies this time are turning out to be big advertising categories”.

ITC Foods, GSK, Colgate, Mondolez, Procter & Gamble are already on the IPL 2020 advertisers list.  CEO of Star Sports Network Gautam Thakar said, “We are getting great response from FMCG. We have closed few advertisers in the category and few are on the verge of closures.”

There is no shortage of money in IPL this year too and the fans are eagerly waiting to see their teams play with no shortage of excitement and intent as well. Be it a pandemic or lockdown, IPL will continue its streak and entertain all of us. Only the form and country of play have changed, but our excitement remains the same for the game!!!
