India 5G: Pekka Lundmark, President and CEO of Nokia, admitted at the beginning of this month that India’s 5G network deployment has been outstanding, placing the country among the top three nations in the world with the greatest 5G user base. Lundmark further stated that 5G download speeds in India outperform those in several mature regions. According to a recent Ericsson survey, an estimated 31 million Indian customers will upgrade to 5G-enabled phones by 2023.

An organization affiliated with the UN called the ITU Study Group approved India’s objective of having widespread 6G coverage during its meeting earlier this month in Geneva. This decision is anticipated to lower the implementation costs for the upcoming technology generation.

According to a recent projection, there will be 1.3 billion 5G subscribers worldwide by Q2 2023, a significant rise of 175 million subscribers. The country that contributed the most—India—added more than 7 million members to this total.

Additionally, during the same quarter, the number of mobile broadband subscriptions increased significantly by 100 million, climbing to 7.4 billion globally. In the present, 88 percent of all subscriptions are to mobile broadband. India contributed for an outstanding 79 percent of mobile subscription penetration when broken down by nation.

On October 1, 2022, during the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022, which was hosted in Delhi, the country’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, officially launched 5G services in India. Bharti Airtel introduced 5G services in eight locations, including the four major metropolises, on that historic day.

Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal pledged to offer 5G service countrywide by March 2024. Using the 26 GHz mm-wave spectrum, Reliance Industries simultaneously disclosed on August 14 its ambitious plans for a national 5G rollout through their subsidiary firm, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited.
