MacBook Pro models to get more power-efficient displays

As per a recent reportAccording to DigiTimes, Apple is getting ready to introduce new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with more power-efficient mini-LED panels. In the fourth quarter of 2023, these models are anticipated to be made available. These devices’ mini-LED backlighting technology can boost display brightness by 10% in comparison to previous generation requirements.

Contrary to predictions, the upgraded mini-LED displays’ greater brightness won’t translate into noticeably brighter screens on the MacBook Pro. Instead, the mini-LEDs will use less electricity while yet maintaining the same brightness. Instead of enhancing visual quality, this improvement aims to prolong battery life and conserve energy.

The assertions presented by DigiTimes seem credible, however the report’s suggested launch date has been questioned. Apple has added M2 Pro and M2 Max CPUs to its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The majority of rumors point to the debut of updated models the following year.

The following iterations of these devices are anticipated to include M3 Pro and M3 Max CPUs, with a probable release date of no later than mid-2024, according to industry expert Mark Gurman. The release of new MacBook Pro models with 3-nanometer M3 Pro and M3 Max CPUs is also predicted by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo for 2024. Compared to the current 5-nanometer processors, these chips will perform better and use less power.

The report also speculates that the iPad Pro series could switch from mini-LED illumination to hybrid OLED displays in 2024, in addition to the MacBook Pro. Due of worries about burn-in problems typically associated with OLED screens, this transition is being taken into consideration. The MacBook Pro models are anticipated to use mini-LED technology through 2026, despite burn-in problems being less common in laptops than in tablets.

There have been numerous rumors about Apple’s ambitions to include OLED technology in upcoming Macs and iPads. In the near future, possibly in 2024 with somewhat higher display sizes, it is anticipated that iPad Pro versions would migrate to OLED panels. However, it is projected that OLED panels won’t be added to MacBook Pro models until 2026, when Apple’s supply chain will be able to match the demand for notebook-optimized OLED displays.
