After seven years of anticipation, Leica has unveiled its second-generation instant camera, aptly named the Sofort 2 (with “sofort” meaning “immediately” in German). This camera is a testament to Leica’s commitment to quality and innovation. From the outside, the Leica Sofort 2 carries the hallmark of company’s craftsmanship and is instantly recognizable. It’s available in three stylish colors: Black, Red, and White.
More About the Leica Sofort 2
One of the most notable enhancements compared to its predecessor, the original Sofort, is that the Sofort 2 is no longer just an instant camera. It has evolved into a hybrid digital camera equipped with a 1/5″ CMOS sensor capable of capturing 4.9MP photos that can be saved onto a microSD card. This digital capability allows you to select which photos you want to print, giving you greater control over your instant photography.
Furthermore, the Leica Sofort 2 doubles as a photo printer, allowing you to transfer images from your smartphone or your Leica camera to the Sofort 2 for immediate printing. It utilizes Sofort color film mini, which produces photos measuring 86 × 54 mm in size.
On the back of the camera, you’ll find a 3-inch LCD screen with a user-friendly menu interface reminiscent of Leica’s renowned camera systems.
The front of the Sofort 2 features a 28mm equivalent Leica Summar f/2 lens, mirroring the focal length of the popular Leica Q series fixed-lens cameras. This lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 10cm, ensuring sharp and detailed close-up shots. Additionally, a front-mounted flash is included, a standard feature in instant cameras.
The Leica Sofort 2 is set to be available for purchase starting November 9, with a price tag of €389/$389.
