Trevoh Chalobah is expected to leave Chelsea in the January transfer window after being frozen out of the first team squad by Mauricio Pochettino. The defender was close to joining Bayern Munich this summer, after turning down Nottingham Forest. But, the German side was unable to complete the deal.
They also failed to sign Joao Palhinha from Fulham, in spite of the Portugal international completing a photoshoot in their kit and a medical. Now, it seems certain that Chalobah’s time at Stamford Bridge is up after making no appearances in the new season.
Trevoh Chalobah to leave Chelsea in January transfer window
Chelsea have decided to go ahead with Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile as their centre-backs for the future. Thiago Silva is the veteran at the back but isn’t expected to stay for too long.
Given the abundance of options at the club, Trevoh Chalobah has been deemed surplus to requirements and will be moved on soon. He will become the latest academy graduate to leave Chelsea after Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ruben Loftus Cheek and Lewis Hall.
Todd Boehly and co have been planning a massive future project, but it isn’t yielding any results in the short term. It will be interesting to see how things work out for the Blues after spending over £1 billion on transfers, risking FFP sanctions if they don’t recover any money.
