The future iterations of the iPhone and MacBook models may come in new matte black color options. This is because the Cupertino company recently received a patent that may enable it to manufacture dark versions of its smartphones, laptops, tablets, and smartwatches.
Apple’s new patent details
Apple discusses using anodized items that have a metal substrate as well as an anodized layer formed from the substrate in its most recent patent. The company developed the anodized layer to utilize light-absorbing properties that are spread throughout and can absorb light that strikes the device’s shell. According to Apple, these light-absorbing features will be created by etching the surface of anodized parts.
On top of the laptop body’s anodized layer, there are “nano-scale tubes with color particles infused” and “an external surface having peaks of varying heights that are separated by pits of varying depths.” They seem to be pondering making a completely impenetrable, all-black surface. To preserve uniformity no matter the illumination or viewpoint, the new coating might reflect light.
Based on a new listing, it appears that they are focusing on refining a color option for their forthcoming MacBooks.
A matte black option would appeal to fans who are sick of the several shades of Space Gray that Apple provides in its Pro products. We don’t yet know how long it will take the Californian company to polish a production tool. The introduction event for the iPhone 15 series on September 15 is currently the center of attention.
