Sony, a leading name in Japanese technology, has announced that it has reached a deal to buy high-end headphone manufacturer Audeze. Audeze, a specialised audio company with headquarters in Santa Ana, California, makes ultra-premium headphones for audiophiles, gamers, sound engineers, and recording pros. The business asserts to be the pioneer of the planer magnetic driver technology, which is believed to provide an excellent acoustic experience across the board.
While neither party disclosed the financial parameters of the transaction, Sony stated that Audeze would continue to operate independently after the acquisition and develop products for platforms other than Sony and PlayStation.
It’s unclear how long Audeze will stay platform-agnostic, but it’s encouraging that the business will continue to sell solutions for non-Sony devices in the near future.
Hideaki Nishino, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Senior Vice President for Platform Experience, stated in a news release announcing the planned acquisition that the move underlines the company’s dedication on innovation and offering the finest audio experience to PlayStation players. He also expressed confidence that the acquisition will help the firm improve the audio experience for PlayStation gamers by building on the Tempest 3D AudioTech and the Pulse 3D wireless headset included in the PS5.
Audeze CEO Sankar Thiagasamudram was likewise pleased with the transaction, stating that it provides the company with a unique opportunity to scale its business. He also stated that the acquisition will enable Audeze to provide best-in-class headphones to audio professionals while simultaneously improving the PlayStation gaming experience. The press release also stated that the acquisition will assist the company by allowing it to become a vital part of the PlayStation ecosystem.
It is important to note that Sony’s most recent audio devices, the Pulse Elite wireless headset and Pulse Explore wireless earbuds, include ‘custom-designed planar magnetic drivers,’ a feature that Audeze is known for. Despite the fact that Sony has not made any formal announcements regarding the matter, it appears that some of its most recent consumer products may already incorporate Audeze technology. Nevertheless, in light of the most recent development, it is entirely conceivable that the acquisition was in the works before it was revealed to the world’s media.
