The Coronavirus pandemic has caused havoc in the whole world. All things have to be stopped and went into lockdown to cope with the massive COVID-19 outbreak.
During the lockdown, people had to stay in their own homes. It’s quite difficult to stay locked indoors so people started playing video games to have some recreation. The video game market saw rapid growth as many people took to gaming during the lockdown.
According to a report by GSD, the Entertainment Retailers’ Association has revealed the 21 best-selling video games during the first 12 weeks of lockdown in the UK (March 23 – June 13). This chart is compiled by GSD. It includes digital sales for all big publishers (Nintendo and Bethesda Softworks are the only exception)
FIFA 20 tops the chart of the best selling games in the UK during lockdown. EA Sports’ football-themed video game ‘FIFA’ is one of the most popular video games. It has seen a massive rise in popularity during the Coronavirus. 506,572 units of FIFA 20 were sold.
EA has declared a record profit in the first quarter of the financial year of 2020-21. They had an operating income of $471 million in the April-May-June period. They described this as “an extraordinary quarter”.
