Samsung has been surpassed by Vivo in Indian market

A market research agency recently reported that Samsung was the most popular smartphone brand in India during the second quarter of this year. According to a different study, Vivo really topped smartphone shipments in India. According to IDC, Samsung will fall to second place in the Indian smartphone market during the second quarter of 2023.

According to IDC’s market research report for Q2 2023, Vivo was the number one smartphone brand in India, with a 16% market share. This represents a 7.4% increase over the second quarter of 2022. According to IDC, Samsung held 15.7% of the Indian smartphone market. This represents a 6.2% decrease from the same period last year. Overall, the Indian smartphone industry shipped 34 million units in Q2 2023, a 3% decrease from Q2 2022. The best-selling brands in the 5G smartphone market were Samsung, Vivo, and OnePlus.

According to the survey, offline sales assisted brands in clearing inventories, and Samsung has made efforts in this direction. The South Korean company has multiple flagship stores in India. It intends to open 15 flagship stores across India.

The average selling price (ASP) of smartphones in India during the quarter was $241, an 8% decrease from the previous quarter but a 13% increase from the previous year. In Q2 2022, the sub-$200 smartphone category fell to 65% from 70%. The mid-range smartphone category (22%) stayed unchanged from last year, while the mid-to-high-end segment ($400 to $600) increased by 34% year on year, with a 5% market share. Shipments in the luxury smartphone (above $600) category increased by 75%, accounting for 9% of total Indian smartphone sales.

Realme and Xiaomi experienced the greatest reduction in sales. Realme came in third place with a market share of 12.6%, a loss of 29.8% from the previous year. Xiaomi’s market share fell from 17.6% in the second quarter of 2022 to 11% in the second quarter of 2023. This represents a tremendous loss of 39.4% year on year, highlighting the company’s strategic blunders over the past year.

OnePlus made significant progress in India, increasing its market share from 4.3% in Q2 2022 to 7.2% in Q2 2023, a 61.1% increase. The Nord series from the company was particularly popular among mid-range purchasers. Apple, like OnePlus, raised its sales by 61.1%. In India, the iPhone has a 5.5% market share, up from 3.3% in Q2 2022.
