The Gunners are looking reshuffle their team this season after winning the FA Cup recently and want to offer their captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a new deal and if he does that Arsenal will be selling Alexandre Lacazette. Their Player of the season Aubameyang has less than a year left on his contract and Arteta wants to sign him a new deal wherein his wages will be close to £250,000-a-week for a three-year deal.
According to the Daily Star, Lacazette will consider a move to Atletico Madrid because the player is unhappy with his game time and being a bit-part player to Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans. After the Premier League restart, the forward has been a regular on the bench until Eddie Nketiah’s suspension allowed the Frenchman to return back to the squad.
Even the Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli, currently out injured, is looking to compete with Lacazette to be the lone striker, forcing the 29-year-old to look for alternatives. So, Lacazette might be on course for a £30m switch to Spain, and it’s already known that he nearly joined Diego Simeone’s side back in June 2017, it’s only for the La Liga club to be hit with a transfer ban, and move at the 11th hour.
If both Lacazette and Aubameyang are compared side by side, the former has found the net 37 times in 97 appearances while the later scored 54 goals in 85 league outings. Aubameyang has created a better impact at the club even though he was signed after Lacazette, who was brought to the Emirates for a hefty fee of £46.5m.
The ex-Lyon ace signed for the Gunner and has even played under three different managers, the current being the Spaniard Mikel Arteta, who has not been impressed with Lacazette’s performance. The Gunners are also closing in on Chelsea free agent Willian, so its more likely the Frenchman will have more competition in the coming season.
Even though Lacazette has two years left on his contract but considering the current situation at the club he will most likely to change his path. He has also admitted after Arsenal’s Wembley win that there has been no further discussions with the club about a new contract.
