Maurizio Sarri joined Juventus last summer from Chelsea. It has been only a year since he has been in charge at Turin. He was expected to guide Juventus to the Champions League throne as Juventus has been winning the Serie A title for the last consecutive 9 seasons.

Juventus hosted Lyon in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie on Friday. It was expected that Ronaldo and co would at least progress to the ‘Final Eight’ tournament in Lisbon. Despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s heroics, they crashed out of the Champions League.

Maurizio Saari hasn’t been able to unlock the full potential of this team. The way he like his team to play, known as ‘Sarri ball’ is no longer an effective method. Juventus won the league because they had a good season before the Coronavirus break. After the season resumed Juventus were nowhere near their best. They won the league by a slender margin of 1 point.

Although Juventus won their 9th straight Serie A title, Sarri hasn’t been able to build the team. It was the Champions League loss which has put the final nail in the coffin.

Juventus has now officially announced on Saturday that Maurizio Sarri has been relieved of his managerial duty at Juventus. The club statement read: “Juventus announces that Maurizio Sarri has been relieved of his post as coach of the first team. The club would like to thank the coach for having written a new page in Juventus’ history with the victory of the ninth-consecutive championship, the culmination of a personal journey that led him to climb all the divisions of Italian football.”

Now, Juventus is on the lookout for a new coach. The first name which is linked to the managerial job is former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino. He is currently out of job despite leading Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League final.

Other names like Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi and former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri and Antonio Conte are also in contention. However, Juventus’ main target is to win the Champions League, so Pochenttino having guided Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League final is probably going to get the nod for the job.
