Upcoming AMD Ryzen 9 4950X spotted with 16 cores and boost up to 4.8GHz

Good news, AMD lovers finally, fresh leaks have come out about the new AMD Ryzen 4000 processors based on Zen 3 microarchitecture. Thanks to Igors Lab, who has leaked the info which shows the so-called Ryzen 9 4950X to be a 16-core, 32-thread CPU with a healthy boost clock speed of 4.8GHz. This is not a huge bump in clock speeds as the predecessor could boost up to 4.7GHz.

The info is derived from an OPN code that reads “100-000000059-52_48/35_Y.” The ’35’ number at the end also signifies that the CPU features 3.5 GHz base clock, and the ’48’ means that the boost clock is 4.8 GHz.

This OPN code is most likely being referred to as an engineering sample of the Zen 3 ‘Vermeer’ Ryzen 4000 CPU. So, obviously, there could be a massive difference in the engineering sample and the retail product and we could see it’s likely clock speeds going higher at launch and could finally enter Intel’s 5GHz territory.

AMD Ryzen 4000 CPUs will be entering mass production soon

There are certain speculations that these new processors could get a name change also before of its official announcement. AMD is said to be skipping the Ryzen 4000 series nomenclature on the desktop front to just avoid the confusion with its current Zen 2-based Ryzen 4000 mobile processors lineup. Although the leak doesn’t give us a solid idea about AMD’s upcoming Zen 3 desktop CPUs, there will be significant performance improvements from last gen.

Previous leaks have also claimed the fact that Ryzen 4000 CPUs will deliver almost 15% better IPC compared to AMD’s Ryzen 3000 desktop processors. To see them you do not have to wait long as AMD is supposed to launch these new processors next month itself after Intel reveals its much-awaited 10nm Tiger Lake CPUs with Intel Xe graphics.
