David De Gea has officially announced that he will be leaving Manchester United after a spell of 12 years with them. He was the longest serving member of the squad, and has now left after the expiry of his contract.
United confirmed his departure in an official statement on their website as well. And it appears that his decision to not stay is mainly due to a disagreement over the wages. Several conflicting reports have emerged over the matter, with some suggesting that the club pulled out of negotiations after the player signed the new contract.
In any case, an agreement has not been reached and the Spaniard has called it a day on his time with the Red Devils.

“I just wanted to send this farewell message to all Manchester United supporters,” De Gea wrote on social media.
“I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years.
“We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club. I took incredible pride every time I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestowed upon a few lucky footballers.
“Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings.”
“It’s been an unforgettable and successful period since I came here,” De Gea added in his farewell statement.
“I didn’t think from leaving Madrid as a young boy we would achieve what we did together. Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings.
“Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will never leave me. We’ve seen it all.”
Manchester United are close to agreeing a deal with Inter for Andre Onana. The Cameroonian is likely to be the replacement for David De Gea, reuniting with his former Ajax head coach, Erik Ten Hag, at Old Trafford.
