FC Goa have reached an agreement with Iker Guarrotxena for his release. The player reportedly requested the club to leave for personal reasons, and the club has granted his wish.
The player scored 11 goals in 20 appearances for the Gaurs this past season. However, Goa did not have a very prolific season as they finished outside the playoff spots. The Spaniard’s next destination is unknown, but he will be available for another club to sign him for free.
Iker Guarrotxena leaves FC Goa after only one season
“I would like to thank all the people around the Club for making last year one of the most successful seasons I’ve ever had. I leave a big and strong family behind, with humble and lovely people. Thank you Goa fans, never stop supporting the team, they will give everything for you. Thank you for all the love I’ve received in the last year,” Iker Guarrotxena said in his parting message.
The 30-year-old most recently featured for FC Goa in the Hero Super Cup, where he scored two goals and provided one assist in three games. FC Goa have signed Udanta Singh from Bengaluru FC as the replacement for their Spanish left winger.
They have also signed Carlos Martinez as their foreign striker for the coming season, and have had to let go of Nikhil Prabhu as well. Mumbai City FC midfielder Raynier Fernandes has also joined Goa, making the move across the state.
