Arsenal have completed the signing of Jurrien Timber in a €40 million deal with €5 million available in easily achievable add-ons. The defender has always been keen on the transfer and only wanted Mikel Arteta’s project. Ajax have now agreed a deal to sell the player to the Premier League club, and the move should be made official very soon, now that he has passed his medical tests as well.
Timber has made over 100 appearances for his boyhood club since breaking into the first team in 2020/21. Last season, he was a target for Manchester United after Erik Ten Hag joined the club. But, they ended up signing his teammate, Lisandro Martinez.
Jurrien Timber to join Arsenal in €45 million transfer from Ajax
The defender will sign a contract until 2028 with the Gunners and will become their third new signing of the summer. Arsenal have already confirmed the arrival of Kai Havertz in a £75 million deal from their local rivals, Chelsea.
They have also finalised a club record £100 million plus £5 million deal to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United. And now, they are further strengthening their squad with the arrival of Jurrien Timber from Ajax.
The youngster has been highly praised for his ball-playing abilities and will be a very valuable addition to the squad. He will be challenging William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White for a starting spot in central defence, but also has the versatility to play at right-back.
Arsenal have also agreed a new deal with Saliba, and are looking to build on their impressive performance in the 22/23 season, alongside a return to the Champions League.
