Harry Maguire is set for his retrial on February 7th in Greece, following three-and-a-half years of his conviction for alleged assault on police and attempting bribery.
Maguire will be off for a holiday after playing his final game for the season in England’s Euro 2024 qualifying win over North Macedonia at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Harry Maguire is to appear for his retrial on February 7th
His arrest during a family break on the Greek island of Mykonos back in August 2020 is still open over Manchester United.
After Maguire was found guilty of assaulting police, he imposed a suspended jail sentence of 21 months and ten days by the court. His brother Joe and friend Christopher Sharman were both sentenced to 13 months, with a three-year suspension.
The Englishman appealed the decision, and the conviction was quashed, which indicates there will be an automatic retrial at the high court.
Hearing was delayed in between due to pandemic
In between, there was COVID which delayed the hearing. Then, it was due to happen earlier this month before Maguire’s legal team asked for it to be put back again.
Now, the new date is due on February 7th. But Maguire might not be present in person. If he’s proven guilty, he’ll not receive a more critical punishment than the original sentence.
Amidst everything, there are speculations about his stay at Old Trafford. Maguire is linked with a high chance of a summer transfer with genuine interest from several clubs, including Tottenham and Aston Villa. It is to be seen where Harry Maguire chooses to go, and it would certainly be among the biggest transfers in this window.
