Siri might no longer respond to “Hey Siri”

In the iOS 17 upgrade, Apple may discontinue the use of the Hey Siri phrase to activate the virtual assistant. Instead, users could be asked to say Siri in addition to the command prompt. For years, users have used the Hey Siri trigger phrases to access Siri on their iPad, Mac, and other Apple devices.

According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, if everything goes as planned, the switch from Hey Siri to Siri might be implemented next year or the year following. According to reports, Apple has changed the trigger phrase for its staff and is gathering the appropriate training data.

While removing Hey from the trigger phrase may appear to be a minor change, it will necessitate extensive AI training and engineering work because the virtual assistant must understand various dialects and accents, and reducing the number of trigger words reduces the chances of the system picking up on the user prompt.

The trigger word modification will bring Siri in line with Amazon’s Alexa.

Unlike other virtual assistants on the market, users can wake up the virtual assistant by just saying ‘Alexa’ or ‘Hey Alexa’. In 2018, Microsoft changed Cortana’s name from ‘Hey Cortana’ to ‘Cortana’ for its smart speakers. With the upcoming iOS 17 operating system, Apple intends to make significant improvements to iPhones. The release of iOS 17 is widely expected during Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC.

A new journaling app is predicted, as is the addition of a Mood Tracker to the health app, a redesigned Control Centre, enhanced functionality for Dynamic Island, and new capabilities for Apple Music. Apple is likely to announce the launch of the MacBook Air 13-inch and MacBook Air 15-inch at the event. Along with the new xrOS, the company is expected to debut its much-anticipated Mixed Reality headset.
