Google Pixel 8 Series Poised for Imminent Launch

The highly anticipated Google Pixel 8 series is expected to hit the market later this year, with two premium smartphones set to debut in October. Unlike last year, Google chose not to preview the Pixel 8 series at I/O 2023. However, numerous leaks in recent times have provided valuable insights into the upcoming flagship devices. Adding to the excitement, a new listing on the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) certification website has shed light on some key details about the Pixel 8 series.

The listing on the regulatory website confirms that the Pixel 8 will come with wireless charging capabilities, hinting at its imminent release. Let’s delve into the known specifications, features, and other details about the Google Pixel 8.

Google Pixel 8 Surfaced on Certification Site

The Pixel 8 will be one of Google’s flagship smartphones, scheduled for release later this year, and it bears the model number GKWS6. The WPC listing explicitly confirms the name of the phone and reveals that it will support 12W wireless charging, matching the wireless charging capability of the Pixel 7. Furthermore, the listed Qi standard, 1.2.4, indicates that the Pixel 8 will not support the recently announced Qi2 wireless charging standard, which incorporates magnets for wireless charging similar to Apple‘s MagSafe.

Additionally, the listing includes a placeholder photo of the Pixel phone featuring thick bezels around the screen and a hole-punch cutout in the top centre. However, exclusive design renders of the Pixel 8 that we revealed showcase thinner bezels compared to the image used in the WPC listing.

The Pixel 8 will retain a flat display with a hole-punch cutout at the top center. Our previous leaks have indicated that the phone will feature a 6.2-inch OLED display, slightly smaller than the 6.3-inch panel found on the current Pixel 7.

In terms of design, the Pixel 8 will have a more rounded appearance compared to the somewhat boxy design of the Pixel 7. The rear camera will be housed within a horizontal visor-like module, with a pill-shaped cutout accommodating a dual-camera setup. The phone will also include an LED flash module and a small microphone cutout adjacent to the camera sensors.

Leaked information suggests that the Pixel 8 will measure approximately 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9mm. The device is expected to be powered by the upcoming Tensor G3 SoC, which is anticipated to deliver improved power efficiency compared to its predecessor. Users can also anticipate the phone launching with the latest Android 14 update pre-installed. Additional details about the phone remain undisclosed. Similar to the Pixel 7 series, it is likely that the forthcoming Pixel 8 series will also be launched in India.
