Bayern Munich overhaul: Big new changes expected from new board

Bayern Munich made a surprise decision to sack CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, announced right after the game against Koln. They won the league, but only on goal difference, and were unable to capitalise on their momentum in the Champions League.

The new board is expected to bring about a whole new range of changes to the club. The sporting project is set to undergo a significant change now that Salihamidzic is no longer at the club. Which means that contract negotiations, player sales and new signings could all be tuned to a new strategy when the new director is recruited.

Players like Joshua Kimmich and Ryan Gravenberch, who were previously considered untouchable, could leave the club in the new project. But, the Bayern hierarchy are very particular about Kimmich because they want him to be the face of the club and their future captain once Manuel Neuer leaves the club.

Gravenberch hasn’t featured a lot this season, and could be sold in the summer. Joao Cancelo’s loan deal was previously set to not be made permanent. But that could be overturned as well in the summer, alongside a decision on Benjamin Pavard.

The board will look for a new striker, with Dusan Vlahovic considered one of the targets. Moreover, a decision on Marcel Sabitzer and his loan at Manchester United will also be made soon while Mathys Tel could be allowed to leave on loan.

Bayern Munich are planning to stick with Thomas Tuchel, with the manager having more power in club decisions down the line.
