Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic have been sacked by the club, following their Bundesliga title win. The decision has been confirmed by the club in an official statement, right after a dramatic end to their season.
The club has confirmed that the vice-chairman of the board, Jan-Christian Dreesen, will be succeeding Kahn as the CEO of the club.
Bayern Munich announce Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic departures
“Oliver Kahn is no longer CEO of FC Bayern Munich AG. Hasan Salihamidžić also wants to be replaced as a board member for sport. This was decided by the club’s supervisory board. Kahn will be replaced by the current vice-chairman of the board Jan-Christian Dreesen. Salihamidžić’s successor is still to be decided,” the official statement read.
Dreesen has served as the vice-chairman of the board for the last ten years. And has now taken over a new role at the club that he knows inside and out.
Kahn, on the other hand, has seen his spell as the CEO of the club end after two years. During his time in charge, the club won two Bundesliga titles and a DFL Super Cup.
Bayern’s recent struggles, and their shocking decision to part ways with Julian Nagelsmann was perhaps the catalyst for the decision from the board. Thomas Tuchel’s arrival hasn’t boosted results as expected, and the title was won primarily due to Dortmund being unable to get the job done.
In light of their recent performances, it could be that Bayern Munich’s board has decided to cut their losses and fix the damage that has been done by taking the club in a new direction.
