Barcelona have won the 22/23 La Liga title against their local rivals Espanyol, through a very entertaining 4-2 scoreline. It is the first league title for the Culers since 2019, and they achieved the feat at the home of their local rivals.
The celebrations started early through Robert Lewandowski, with the number 9 opening the scoring eleven minutes into the game. Alejandro Balde assisted the Pole and scored his first goal for FC Barcelona shortly after.
Barcelona win the La Liga title with a 4-2 win over Espanyol
Lewandowski scored his second of the night shortly before halftime to send his side into half-time with a 3-0 advantage. He now leads the race for the Pichichi trophy with 21 goals to his name, while Karim Benzema has 17 as things stand.
Jules Kounde made it 4-0, heading the ball into the bottom corner after a fine delivery from Frenkie De Jong. The new champions showed remarkable quality throughout the game but conceded two goals late in the game.
Without the goal in the second half, there could have been a chance for a dramatic comeback. But it was too little, too late for Espanyol. They did become one of the few sides to score two goals against Barcelona this season but are still in the relegation zone. Xavi Hernandez’s side have only conceded 13 goals all season, and have secured the title with four games to go.
