The Asia Cup 2023 will be shifted to Sri Lanka, on the back of conflicts between the BCCI and the PCB. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh sided with the BCCI in order to move the tournament away from Pakistan.

The BCCI was clear on their stance that the Indian team would not travel to Pakistan. The reason behind them not wanting to send the Indian team was over security concerns and no clearance from the government for the same.

Asia Cup 2023 moved to Sri Lanka from Pakistan

In the debates that followed the initial conflict, it was suggested that India would play their matches at a neutral venue – Dubai.

However, the hectic schedule and the unbearable temperatures in the Middle East have ruled out the plans for a neutral location. The ICC World Cup will take place right after the Asia Cup 2023, which will leave the players with little time to recover.

Sri Lanka went on to win the Asia Cup last time around. But due to the political unrest there, they were not chosen to host. But it now seems like they could do so after all, should the authorities sanction the move from Pakistan. This could also result in them boycotting the tournament. But, the PCB’s stance on the matter is unknown as of yet.
