This news has been around for a long time that BCCI is looking to take IPL out of India. UAE and Sri Lanka were the two candidates for hosting the IPL 2020 but the former was believed to win the race.
Now it’s official that BCCI has chosen UAE to host IPL 2020. They have formally written a letter to ECB. The Emirates Cricket Board tweeted on Monday confirming the news.
Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) confirms that they have received the official 'Letter of Intent' from BCCI to host the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

ECB also published an official report: “Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) confirms that they have received the official ‘Letter of Intent’ from BCCI to host the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They will now wait on the decision from the Indian Government which will ink the final deal.”
BCCI has also decided to prepone the tournament by 1 week. Earlier, it was said that IPL 2020 will start from 26th September but as things stand now the tournament is expected to start from 19th September with the final taking place on 8th November in a safe and protected environment in UAE.
UAE has also hosted the 2014 IPL so they are confident of successfully hosting the 2020 edition as well. Mubashshir Usmani, Emirates Cricket Board Secretary-General said: “We have a sound, solid understanding of what is required, and to whom we need to consult and engage with from this early stage through to the close of the Tournament.”
“UAE boasts some of the best practice facilities and stadia in the world across three-Emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah) which we are confident will be more than adequate to support the 8-team tournament.”
