5 out of 5 defeats for Chelsea under Frank Lampard as their woes continue

The season can’t end soon enough for Chelsea, who lost their fifth straight game under Frank Lampard with the 2-0 loss at home against Brentford. Stamford Bridge was unusually flat, and the players lacked any confidence on the pitch, making for yet another dismal showing.

Lampard opted to field another defensive line up, with Raheem Sterling as the only attacking player in the starting eleven. However, after going down due to an own goal at half time, he brought on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mykhaylo Mudryk for the second. And things eventually improved for them on the attacking front.

Chelsea stumble to another defeat under Lampard

However, Aubameyang looked very rusty in spite of showing his instincts on the pitch. Similarly, Mudryk, although a spark in attack, wasn’t able to produce a goal to save the game for the Blues.

The squad is bloated, the confidence is seemingly non-existent, and nothing Lampard does is clicking with the players. The uncertainty over the new head coach and their own futures has naturally put the players into a difficult headspace. And it is becoming very evident on the pitch with every passing game.

With games against Arsenal, Newcastle United and Manchester United yet to be played until the end of the season, it could be all losses for Frank Lampard. The board has backed him to stay until the end of the season in spite of the dismal performances, and given the way things have been going, it doesn’t seem like Chelsea will find another win this season.
