How Do I Use the IMEI Number to Find a Lost Mobile Phone?

Did you know the IMEI number may be used to locate a stolen Android device? The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number is a special code used to keep track of each individual mobile device. If you don’t have access to your SIM card, GPS, or the Internet, it can feel like the end of the world. Here to save the day, though, is the IMEI number.

The IMEI number serves as a unique identifier for your phone and can help locate a lost device. Mobile network operators use IMEI trackers to identify and provide personalized services for mobile devices. Typically, smartphone IMEI numbers can be found on or beneath the device’s back cover, specifically under the battery.

The phone tracking project has been in the works for a long, and it was created with the only goal of decreasing mobile phone theft and the counterfeit mobile phone trade. The Indian government has invested roughly ₹15 Crores in this venture, anticipating a positive result. Here’s how to utilize your phone’s unique IMEI number to try and track it down if it’s been lost or stolen:

Finding a Lost or Stolen Phone with the help of IMEI Number

• If your phone has been lost or stolen, report it to the authorities and maintain a copy of the report until the IMEI number tracking is finished.
• The next step is to get in touch with your service provider to get a replacement SIM card; you will receive an OTP once you have requested the blocking of the IMEI number. This won’t help you find your missing phone, but it will make it completely useless to anyone with foul intentions who finds it.
• To have your IMEI blocked, you must go to the CEIR website and upload the required documents. A police report copy, proof of identity, the receipt, and other documents may be required.
• An OTP will be sent to the number you provided, which must be the same number used to access the device before it was lost.
• You will then be issued a request ID, which you may use to track the requester’s progress toward having the IMEI unblocked.
