Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that the country’s 125 airports would be carbon neutral by 2025, with 25 already using renewable energy. In his virtual address to the EU-India aviation summit, Scindia made the above remarks. Due to a positive Covid test, he was unable to physically attend the event.

“It is our goal that by the year 2030, airports will utilize zero net energy. Already employing only green energy, 25 AAI airports. By 2025, we want to have 121 more airports that are carbon neutral” He said.
The minister stated that the usage of renewable energy was made a requirement by the government for bid proposals for future airports. “We also want to encourage people to use environmentally friendly aviation fuel. Demonstration flights utilizing biofuel combined with ATF have previously been done by Indian airline companies” he said.
Additionally, Scindia asked EU participants to collaborate with India in the development of adaptable technologies and to support the goal of reducing emissions from the aviation sector. The summit, which started on Thursday, will center on relations between the EU and India in terms of air travel as well as the mutual challenges and opportunities that the two countries face, including the post-Covid recovery of air traffic, boosting sustainability, maintaining safety, and developing unmanned aircraft systems.
Important EU and Indian policymakers, business leaders, and other stakeholders will gather for this meeting. The minister of civil aviation in India said that the country had made changes to its regulatory framework to encourage domestic aircraft production.
“To encourage MROs to set up shop, we have opened the market to full foreign direct investment and reduced the GST rate on MRO services from 18% to 5%. In addition, new MRO rules have been released to standardize the fees that MRO service providers must charge. I’d like to encourage EU-based businesses to take advantage of this window of opportunity and join the world’s most rapidly expanding aviation sector” In addition, he said.
