BCCI Media Rights: BCCI set to earn Rs 6000 crore from media rights tender with Disney Star, Viacom 18, and Sony-Zee in the fray

BCCI Media Rights : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to sell media rights for bilateral international cricket at home. This year, the bilateral series is the second largest source of income for Indian cricket after the Indian Premier League (IPL), and the Indian board has released the media rights tender for the same. According to reports, Disney Star, Viacom 18, and Sony-Zee are in the fray, and BCCI is bracing for another Rs 6000 crore windfall.

Here are some highlights of the BCCI media rights tender:

  • After receiving INR 48,390 crore from the IPL media rights, the BCCI is expecting high returns from the home season rights for the 2023-2027 cycle.
  • Viacom’s entry into the Indian cricket market could spark a three-way conflict with the other two competitors being Disney Star and Sony-Zee.
  • The BCCI is anticipated to sell broadcast and digital rights separately for the home international matches, just like it did for the IPL.
  • To streamline its rights in accordance with the Future Tours Programme (FTP) of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and other high-end properties like ICC events and the IPL, the BCCI intends to issue a four-year tender (2023-27) instead of the current five-year tender (2018-23).
  • The Indian squad is scheduled to play 20 Tests, 21 ODIs, and 31 T20Is at home under the current FTP, in addition to multilateral competitions like the ICC World Cups and Asia Cup.
