With the PSP and PS Vita, Sony dominated the handheld console market. It now appears that the company wants to resume producing portable gaming hardware. The PlayStation Q Lite handheld device, which is still undergoing QA testing, is described in a recent report. The catch is that it will only function with Sony’s PlayStation Remote Play.
The new handheld device is described as a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller with an 8-inch LCD screen in the middle.
Years after the PlayStation Vita, Sony’s previous handheld offering was abruptly discontinued, the Q Lite handheld gaming console would be released. While the PSP received almost universal praise and continues to be a popular choice for legacy gaming, the Vita hasn’t had the same kind of luck and ultimately failed to gain significant traction.
Though the Q Lite won’t be able to play games on its own without an internet connection, the device will be able to stream PS5 games.
If it will be compatible with other cloud-based gaming platforms is unknown. The Nintendo Wii U GamePad connects to the Wii U via a modified low-latency Wi-Fi protocol and enables you to play your games on a smaller screen as long as you are on the same network as the console. Based on the information provided, Sony’s upcoming PlayStation handheld may be similar to this device.
Adaptive triggers, speakers, volume controls, and a 3.5mm audio jack are all included in Project Q Lite. The display will be 1080p capable at 60 frames per second. After the anticipated PlayStation 5 with a detachable disc drive, which is anticipated this September, and before the PlayStation 5 Pro announcement, which is anticipated for late 2024, Sony is anticipated to release its new handheld device.
