Luke Shaw is set to extend his contract with Manchester United in the coming days. The player has been trusted by Erik Ten Hag in various roles, including centre-back, and has taken the opportunity very well.
The defender has been with the club since 2014, after signing from Southampton, making him one of the longest serving members of the squad. His previous contract was set to run out in 2024, but the club have handed him a brand new deal now.
Luke Shaw to renew contract with Manchester United soon
As per David Ornstein of the Athletic, Luke Shaw has agreed a four-year extension with United that will see him stay at the club until 2027. An official statement from the club is awaited, confirming the same.
“If Luke Shaw signed a new deal, I don’t know — I haven’t heard, as John Murtough didn’t inform me until now. I have to wait for that. If it’s true, I’m pleased,” Erik Ten Hag recently said at a press conference.
“We want to keep Luke because he’s a really important player for our team”.
Although the United manager has been ambiguous when it comes to a new contract for the player, it seems to be a done deal. Now, the attention turns to new contracts for Marcus Rashford and David De Gea, both of whom have been very important for the team this season.
Contract negotiations have not reached advanced stages yet, but the club are confident of reaching an agreement soon since both are keen on continuing.
