Apple is working on new OLED panels for the iPad that will use less power and perform better. The improved display technology will be available in both 11-inch and 13-inch sizes with the iPad Pro models next year. While the addition of OLED is more than welcome, a new report claims that the 2024 iPad Pro models will be significantly more expensive than the current models.

The mini-LED display was introduced by Apple on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The display improves the overall experience by bringing accurate colours and a wide dynamic range to the table. The smaller iPad Pro has the same LCD panel and has been chastised for its lack of innovation.

Apple appears to be taking a unified approach with the upcoming iPad Pro, as both models are expected to feature OLED displays, but this will come at a cost.

According to a new report, the 11-inch OLED iPad Pro will cost up to $1,500, while the 13-inch model will cost $1,800. The expected price is quite high, which will reduce demand and users’ desire to own a ‘Pro’ iPad. To be more specific, the 11-inch model could see an 80% price increase, while the 13-inch model could see a 60% price increase. It opens the door for users to choose a MacBook over an iPad.

Last year, Apple introduced the M2 MacBook Air at a starting price of $1,199, alongside the 13-inch MacBook, which costs $1,299. In comparison to the anticipated prices, the new MacBook models appear to be far more appealing. While these are two distinct markets, it would be reasonable to anticipate a downward trend in iPad Pro demand.

The increasing cost of components may cause the OLED iPad Pro models to be more expensive. Take note that the panels are still in the early stages of development, and Apple has yet to finalise a deal with LG and Samsung. Pricing for future iPad Pro models may differ from what is being speculated today.
