Luka Modric has been called up to the Croatia national team for their upcoming European Championship qualifiers. The national team captain’s future was uncertain following their third placed finish at the 2022 World Cup, but it is now apparent that he is not quite done.
Although he is 37 years old, he is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. And what’s even more impressive is his ability to outperform players a decade or two younger than him as well.
Luka Modric to continue with Croatia for Euro qualifiers
The Croatian is not only the leader for the national team, but also for Real Madrid. He has provided six goals and five assists across all competitions, and is one of the most trusted players for Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian believes that him, Toni Kroos and Karim Benzema are the backbone of the team.
And age proves to be no barrier for either of the three players, who are only just coming off a Champions League winning campaign.
Luka Modric is arguably the greatest player to ever represent Croatia at the national stage. His 2018 Ballon d’Or win was the peak of his individual career, as he captained the national team to a runners-up finish at the 2018 World Cup behind winners France.
The midfielder’s contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the season. Talks regarding an extension could take place soon between him and the club for another one-year renewal.
