In an interesting turn of events, Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo has signed a new contract with the club. The player’s new deal sees him receive a big pay rise, reflecting on his impact at the club since arriving from Independiente del Valle in 2021.

His new deal runs until June 2027, after having posted a public message asking to leave the club during the January transfer window. Arsenal and Chelsea were both very interested in signing him, and presented offers in the region of £55 million from Chelsea and £70 million from the Gunners.

The new contract includes the option of another season for the player, who seems to have reconciled with the club. “This is fantastic news,” Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi told the club’s website.

“For the club, our fans, for me and most importantly for Moises. It will make us stronger as we move forward towards our targets on the pitch.”

Now that he has committed his future to the club, Moises Caicedo will be able to focus solely on the project at hand. The Ecuadorian is now expected to feature against West Ham United this weekend, and help the Seagulls challenge for European spots. There is no release clause included in his new deal, but top clubs remain interested for a move in the summer.

Given that he has just signed a new contract with a pay rise, and that Brighton saw his valuation as over £70 million in January itself, it seems likely that anybody interested will be priced out of a transfer.
