WPL Opening Ceremony: Exciting Lineup of Performances by Bollywood Stars set to Kick Off WPL’s Inaugural Season on March 4th

WPL Opening Ceremony : The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is all set to kick-off on March 4th, 2023 with a grand opening ceremony at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has planned a magnificent event to celebrate the start of the WPL 2023 season. The WPL opening ceremony is scheduled to take place before the match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans.

Here’s what you need to know about the WPL Opening Ceremony:

  1. Star-Studded Event: The WPL opening ceremony will see some of the biggest names from Bollywood gracing the occasion. Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon, two of the most popular actresses in the Indian film industry, are set to perform during the festivities. Punjabi-Canadian rapper AP Dhillon and composer Shankar Mahadevan will also add their electrifying performances to the ceremony.
  2. The WPL Anthem: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah recently unveiled WPL’s official tune. Shankar Mahadevan is expected to perform and unveil the WPL anthem live at the event. He wrote and composed the WPL official anthem, which will be made public before the WPL’s opening ceremony.
    • Timing and Venue: The opening ceremony is expected to start at 5:30 pm IST, just before the first match of the WPL between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, will be the venue for the opening ceremony.
  3. Broadcasting and Livestreaming: Network 18 has purchased the broadcasting rights of WPL 2023 in India, while Jio Cinema has purchased all live-streaming rights. Sports 18 channels will be broadcasting the event, while the livestream will be available on the Jio Cinema app.
  4. Auctions and Team Lineup: Five teams, namely Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz, took part in the inaugural edition of the WPL auction. Smriti Mandhana of India was sold for INR 3.40 crore to Royal Challengers Bangalore, while Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of Team India, was auctioned off to the Mumbai Indians for INR 1.80 crore. Ashleigh Gardner of Australia and Natalie Sciver of England attracted the highest bidding among the overseas players and were sold to Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians for INR 3.20 crore each. Shafali Verma, the captain of the Indian women’s T20 team, was bought by the Delhi Capitals for INR 2.50 crore.
