Xiaomi subsidiary Redmi has unveiled its Redmi 300W fast charging solution. The announcement appears to be timed to coincide with Realme’s GT 3 240W global launch event at MWC 2023. In China, Redmi previously released a phone called the Redmi Note 12 Discovery edition, which supported 210W fast charging.
The Redmi 300W fast charging technology appears to be a follow-up, and an improvement over Realme’s 240W figure, though Redmi doesn’t appear to have a commercial device ready just yet.
The Redmi 300W fast charging technology was teased in a post on China’s popular social media website Weibo, claiming that the solution can charge the phone in about 5 minutes and Realme GT 3 240W is claimed to do that in around 10 minutes.
A modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery edition with a 4,100mAh battery was used as a reference device. A 50% charge took 2 minutes and 11 seconds, while a full charge took slightly less than 5 minutes.
Peak power was mostly 290W, not 300W, which could be a precaution to keep battery temperature and health in check. The charger is said to use GaN technology with over 50 built-in safety features. Redmi has yet to provide any concrete information on commercial availability.
