The Mumbai Indians, the reigning champions of the Indian Premier League, have announced their coaching team for the upcoming Women’s Premier League in 2023. The anticipation has been building up and fans can’t wait to see their favourite team take the field once again. But what many may not know is the hard work and dedication of the coaching staff behind the scenes. So, without further ado, let’s meet the masterminds behind the Mumbai Indians WPL 2023 team.
Brace yourself, as we introduce to you the three legends of the game who will train and mentor the women’s cricket team of Mumbai Indians
Introducing the Legends of the Coaching Squad for Mumbai Indians’ WPL 2023 Journey:
- Charlotte Edwards as Head Coach
- Jhulan Goswami as Mentor & Bowling Coach
- Devieka Palshikaar as Batting Coach
- Trupti Chandgadkar Bhattacharya as Team Manager
Charlotte Edwards
A former England Women’s Team Captain and a CBE is one of women’s cricket’s all-time greats. With a career spanning over 20 years, Charlotte has captained England to an ODI and T20I World Cup win and has been coaching teams across England and Australia for the past 5 years. She was honoured with an MBE in 2009 and a CBE in 2014 and was recently inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
Jhulan Goswami
A Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee is the epitome of exceptional bowling skills. She has inspired and scripted many wins for India and is considered to be one of the greatest bowlers to have ever played the sport. With over 350 international wickets, Jhulan holds the record for the highest number of wickets in women’s ODI history and the most wickets at the Women’s World Cups. After her retirement, Jhulan has been helping groom the next generation of cricketers as the mentor of the Bengal Women’s team.
Devieka Palshikaar
A former all-rounder for India was a player and coach of the Assam Women’s team from 2009 to 2012. After her playing career, Devieka was assistant coach of India between 2014 and 2016, and assistant coach of Bangladesh, winning the 2018 Asian cup with them. In India, she has been coaching various Indian domestic teams and was the head coach of Velocity for the 2022 Women’s T20 Challenge which made it to the finals.
Trupti Chandgadkar Bhattacharya
A former cricketer, manager of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, and selector at MCA rounds off this powerhouse coaching team.
Smt. Nita M. Ambani, the Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, is thrilled to welcome these three legends to the MI #OneFamily. “It is wonderful to see more and more women in sport, excelling not just as players, but also as coaches, administrators, and support staff. This is an exciting time for women’s sport in India,” she said. “Our female athletes have consistently made the nation proud on the international stage and we remain committed to supporting them in every possible way to scale even greater heights!”
Mumbai Indians recently won the bid for Mumbai’s team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), making it the fourth franchise in its MI #OneFamily. Through this franchise, MI aims to continue its efforts to support the development of women’s cricket in India. With the dream team of coaches leading the way, the Mumbai Indians WPL franchise is sure to be a game-changer.
